“I made thin soups and fed them to the man. He had difficulty to swallowing due to the pain in his throat. He coughed between bites and held a napkin over his mouth to hold the vomit back. He did not eat very much. He ate a quarter of a bowl, then gagged. He slept all the time now, only waking from hunger or having to use the bathroom. The man could not walk to the bathroom alone and so he leaned against me as we staggered down the hallway.”
