“The man and I lay in bed for so long that our bodies began rotting away. The skin near our wrists and ankles grew wet and stuck to the mattress. The man and I tugged at ourselves until the skin ripped free. Our bodies were marked with bare red patches. The patches seeped. They smelled of old skin. The man brought his wrist wound to his mouth and licked. He said the wound was very salty. He prodded it with his tongue until a thin skin flap came up from the wound’s edge and lifted. The man caught the flap between his front teeth and yanked. The skin pulled and ripped. The man spat the flap out onto the floor…”
